REGULAR PART TIME CONSUMER POSITION OPENING

 

 

The position requires a person(s) who has experienced a period of severe mental illness, who is currently experiencing recovery, and who has experience in utilizing services and supports to achieve their personal goals of community membership, independence, and productivity.

 

TITLE:  Peer Support Specialist (Integrated Health, Midland County)

- Regular Part-Time, 10 hrs per week  

 

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: 

 

Provide a variety of services under the supervision of professional staff.  Employ unique background and skill level from personal experience in promoting services and supports to help consumers achieve their personal goals of community membership, independence and productivity.  Support, mentor and assist CMHCM customers in achieving community inclusion, participation, independence, recovery, resiliency and/or productivity.  Employ ability to gain trust and respect of consumers based on shared experience and perspectives with disabilities, and with planning and negotiating human services systems.  Work with persons with MI, Co-occurring and Developmental Disabilities.  Attend Certified Peer Support Specialist training.  This position will focus on promoting positive health practices among our consumers and include linkage to local health care resources.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

Qualified candidates must demonstrate that they are working through an MI recovery process and have an interest in working with individuals who have a severe and persistent mental illness. High School degree or equivalent, valid driver’s license, and sufficient experience to perform the position at a satisfactory level are required.  Good written and oral communication skills, knowledge of local community resources, ability to establish and maintain relationships on professional, social and personal levels, and strong organizational skills are required.  Basic word processing skills preferred.  Peer Support Specialist Training and knowledge of health care systems a plus.
