Annual Message

The CMHCM Board and staff are pleased to share with you the 2019 Annual Report highlighting the many efforts supporting the behavioral health needs of the 276,000 citizens of Clare, Gladwin, Isabella, Mecosta, Midland, and Osceola counties.

CMHCM and the provider network staff worked in concert to provide supports and services to individuals in their path toward personal fulfillment. Over the years, the CMHCM behavioral health workforce has shown that goodness of heart is one of the greatest credentials that exemplifies staff in our vision to support fulfilled lives. The various acts of caring by agency staff demonstrates leadership commitment to our communities, fighting against the health impacts of loneliness, isolation, rejection, trauma, and lack of basic needs.

Consumer involvement in agency governance, services, and operations assures the public that the voices of persons with lived experience are guiding the mission of the agency to best meet community needs. CMHCM gratefully acknowledges the many persons served who have collectively reported high satisfaction with their experience working with CMHCM. The affirmations from the people CMHCM serves is the fuel that builds growth and resiliency on the frontlines of behavioral healthcare. The CMHCM Consumer Action Committee provided feedback that consumers experience the freedom to choose their provider, realize strengthened collaboration with health care providers, receive support for the whole family to participate in treatment, get help with the social determinants of health, and feel pride in accomplishments such as clubhouse accreditation.

Within this context of high performing service, CMHCM and its provider network achieved a service delivery milestone, recording services delivered to over 10,000 citizens. We celebrate this achievement having accomplished it within budget and with expansion of services such as our new Autism centers at the Rosebush Learning Center and Eastwood Elementary in Big Rapids, Youth Intervention Specialist expansion, and school partnership agreements across our counties.

CMHCM serves the community as the safety net for persons with the highest acuity of behavioral health needs irrespective of local and statewide emergencies such as the January 2019 Polar Vortex. We are privileged to work alongside our many community partners to best meet the mental health needs of those receiving 24/7, urgent, and crisis services. CMHCM provides the most comprehensive array of mental health services across our six counties to respond to mental health crises, preventing arrest and incarceration, preventing homelessness, helping kids be safe and successful in school, helping families stay together, serving children with autism, and supporting persons with disabilities to live in the community.

CMHCM provides services to five of the fourteen most impoverished counties in Michigan against the backdrop of perpetual challenges in federal and state funding. We are grateful for the support of each of the six County Board of Commissioners, our network providers, and the general public in assuring the public mental health safety net stays strong to help keep our communities healthy and safe even under the most difficult circumstances.

CMHCM is confident that the breadth of agency services delivered with heartfelt caring can literally change the course of a life. The people CMHCM serves are impacted by CMHCM staff’s tenacity in helping them back on the path to become the person they once hoped to be, to appreciate the society of their community, and contribute to its well-being.
